Allie and Bea by Catherine Ryan Hyde

Paperback, 350 pages
Expected publication: May 23rd 2017 by Lake Union Publishing
Bea has barely been scraping by since her husband died. After falling for a telephone scam, she loses everything and is forced to abandon her trailer. With only two-thirds of a tank in her old van, she heads toward the Pacific Ocean with her cat—on a mission to reclaim what’s rightfully hers, even if it means making others pay for what she lost.

When fifteen-year-old Allie’s parents are jailed for tax fraud, she’s sent to a group home. But when her life is threatened by another resident, she knows she has to get out. She escapes only to find she has nowhere to go—until fate throws Allie in Bea’s path.

Reluctant to trust each other, much less become friends, the two warily make their way up the Pacific Coast. Yet as their hearts open to friendship and love from the strangers they meet on their journey, they find the courage to forge their own unique family—and begin to see an imperfect world with new eyes.

My Thoughts…

Allie and Bea started slow for me.   I felt like it was kind of a pity party for Bea.   Poor her…having her accounts wiped clean, losing her husband, not being able to pay rent…nothing was going her way.     Then she went shady and ran.    I wasn’t sure of her.    Then there was Allie.   Her folks get arrested and she is taken to a group home where she has to run.     There was no fault on Allie’s part but I feel like she was living in a dream world with how she thought her life would end up.    Maybe it was due to her age but I have a 15 year old and I hope she would be less naΓ―ve that Allie and know that life can be tough and sometimes you have to put on your big girl pants and figure out how to get along with different people.

My favorite part of the book is the travelling and the scenes they saw.   The coast, the lighthouse, the beaches, and the towns they visited captured my attention and had me dreaming of a fun vacation.     It was fun that Allie and Bea winged their trip for the most part.     They decided where to stop, where to eat, and which direction to head based on recommendations from locals, how much gas and money they had, and where they were at the time.     I think travelling this way would be fun.

Hyde  wrote a fun book.      I didn’t have to think a lot and could just fall into the story and follow along on their journey.

Thanks to Lake Union  for a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

Before the Rain Falls by Camille Di Maio

Kindle Edition, 334 pages
Expected publication: May 16th 2017 by Lake Union Publishing
After serving seventy years in prison for the murder of her sister, Eula, Della Lee has finally returned home to the Texas town of Puerto Pesar. She’s free from confinement—and ready to tell her secrets before it’s too late.

She finds a willing audience in journalist Mick Anders, who is reeling after his suspension from a Boston newspaper and in town, reluctantly, to investigate a mysterious portrait of Eula that reportedly sheds tears. He crosses paths with Dr. Paloma Vega, who’s visiting Puerto Pesar with her own mission: to take care of her ailing grandmother and to rescue her rebellious younger sister before something terrible happens. Paloma and Mick have their reasons to be in the hot, parched border town whose name translates as “Port of Regret.” But they don’t anticipate how their lives will be changed forever.

Moving and engrossing, this dual story alternates between Della’s dark ordeals of the 1940s and Paloma and Mick’s present-day search for answers?about roots, family, love, and what is truly important in life.

My Thoughts…

Before the Rain is told in a dual timeline format, Della Lee’s story from 1940’s and the current day in Puerto Pesar.   In the 1940’s Della Lee finds the love of her life in Tomas and she also pleads guilty to murdering her sister and is sent to prison.     In the present day granddaughter has returned to help care for her grandmother after she had a heart attack.

I was intrigued by both timelines.     The idea of a new bride and loving sister killing her sister and being sent to a women’s prison was fascinating.    The things she had to do just to stay alive along with the interesting people she met while incarcerated had me intrigued.   The other time is Paloma’s story.  I felt for Paloma, coming home to a sister that has grown up and turned into a young women that is so different from who she use to be and a grandmother recovering from a heart attack could not have been easy.    Paloma ran from this place, she needed to get out of Puerto Pesar and do bigger and better things yet it is the place that needs her the most.     Add to her life the journalist Mick Anders, who has his own reasons for running from his home, and her life gets more intriguing.

Before the Rain is a story of family, heartbreak,  and finding out what is truly important in life.

Going in Deep (Billionaire Bad Boys, Book 4) by Carly Phillips

Date of Publication: May 9, 2017

He isn't Mr. Nice Guy…

Julian Dane thought he'd hit rock bottom — until he met a woman (isn't that what they all say?). He used her and broke her heart. Now he wants to turn things around but the damage he dealt stands in his way.

Kendall Parker's unique issues have made it hard to live a normal life. Very few people understand her and she trusts even less … but she believed in Julian once, and he only betrayed her.

Now Julian is back — a new man — and determined to win Kendall's heart. But this reformed bad boy just might find that Going in Deep is harder than it looks.

Billionaire Bad Boys: Rich, Powerful and Sexy as hell.
All Billionaire Bad Boys Novels stand alone!

My Thoughts…

I started Going in Deep without any background knowledge of the characters.    This is the first book in this series I have read.     My expectations were hot, heavy, sexy, steamy, and fun.    There was all that so more in the book.

Julian had to prove himself to Kendall.   Burn me once shame on you, burn me twice shame on me came to mind and I was hoping that Julian would treat Julian as the queen she deserved to be treated as.    Both Julian and Kendall were good, nice characters.   I was invested in Julian staying clean, Kendall becoming her own person, and them coming together and finding their happy ever after.

The secondary characters especially Lexi, Kendall’s twin, and Alex, Julian’s roommate, were wonderful.   I am interested in learning more about them both and seeing how they continue to live their lives.    I liked how protective the characters were of each other yet how much they respected each other’s opinions.     The things they did for each other were not meant to hurt but rather to protect, help, and show their love.

Going in Deep was a quick and easy read.   The words flew off the page and I could not stop reading.     I enjoyed the story and look forward for more from Carly Phillips.

Thank you Rock Star PR for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Sea of Love by Melissa Foster AUDIOBOOK

  • Written by: Melissa Foster
  • Narrated by: B.J. Harrison
  • Length: 10 hrs and 10 mins
  • Unabridged Audiobook

  • Release Date:03-24-15
  • Publisher: Melissa Foster

  • Lacy Snow wasn't looking for love when she met strikingly handsome and seductive Dane Braden. But how could she ignore the six-foot-three, darkly handsome god who tagged and researched sharks for a living - and made every nerve in her body tangle into an overly sensitive knot? Even her fear of sharks could not suppress their intense attraction.
As founder of the Brave Foundation, Dane Braden travels from port to port, educating and advocating on behalf of the mammals he adores - and spends his nights finding solace in the arms of strangers. The last thing Dane was looking for when he met Lacy Snow was a relationship, and the last thing he expected was to fall in love.
Fifteen months - and hundreds of flirty emails, steamy phone calls, and sensual video chats - later, they reunite and take passion to a whole new level. But as Lacy's phobia meets Dane's past love life, their steamy romance is upended, and when tragedy strikes, Dane and Lacy are forced to face their deepest fears head-on as they try to navigate their own sea of love.

  • My Thoughts...

  • BJ Harrison is amazing.   I know, I know, I say this about every book that I've listened to that he has narrated but it is always true.     He has the perfect tones to share the feelings, the reactions, and just make the characters come alive.    Melissa Foster wrote the story but BJ Harrison makes it become real.   Together Melissa and BJ are the perfect audiobook pairing.

  • Lacy Snow met Dane Braden at her half sister’s wedding. After the wedding they both went their separate ways, keeping in touch with daily emails, texts, Skype calls, and Face Time calls. Fifteen months later they are back together, face to face, at another wedding. The passion is hot and they both know they have to face their fears to make a relationship work.

Melissa Foster has written another book about the Braden's that kept me reading all day long. The passion is hot. The feelings are real.

Dane is the type of man every woman wants. He goes out of his way to win Lacy's heart. Even when she tells of her intense fear of sharks, which is what Danes job entails, he goes above and beyond to help her come to terms with her fear and to terms with his job. As with any relationship there are bumps in the road to happiness.

Sea of love is the seventh book in the Love in Bloom series. It is also the fourth book in the Braden series. I recommend you read the others in this series but it is not necessary as each book can stand alone also. This entire series has quickly become one of my all time favorites so of course I recommend you read and enjoy the Braden's and the Snows stories.

Alone With You: The Walker Brothers Book 2 by Amanda Adams

Date of Publication: May 5, 2017

Claire Miller fell in love with Jake in the third grade. One hot night of reckless passion changed things between them forever. Jake rocked her world, but Claire had plans for her life. Knowing she could never be what he needed, she let him go and has missed him every day since.

Jake Walker knew the first time he saw Claire, when he was nine years old, that he wanted to marry her. At seventeen, he let her go. But seven years later, the sight of her hit him like a punch to the gut. Every cell in his body demanded that she was ‘The One'. But can he convince Claire?

My Thoughts…

This is the 2nd book in The Walker Brothers series by Amanda Adams.     Claire and Jake have been best friends and in love since third grade.    The Claire leaves town to live her dreams and leaves Jake behind.   Jake stays in town and works the ranch as his father did before him.   He knows that this is his destiny.  Yet, Claire and Jake are destine to be together also.

I guess at 17 you know what you want but you don’t always know how to get it.   That is the problem for Claire and Jake.    They know they want each other but they also know their dreams don’t jive with what the other wants.       My thought is if it is meant to be it will be…sometimes you just need a gentle push (or full on shove) to get back to each other.

The small town setting is wonderful.   I could picture the ranch, the gravel roads, and the quaint shops.   It is a town that every teenager can’t wait to leave, except Jake, but loves to return to.    It is a town that everyone knows everyone and there are no secrets.    It is an amazing setting that never fails to pull me in.

The secondary characters, specifically the Walker Brothers, are so sexy, fun, supportive, and wonderful.   The relationships between the brothers is one of true family.    They fight, argue, love, support, and push each other out of their comfort zones.   It is true family love.

About Amanda Adams

Amanda Adams fell in love with books at a very early age. Her earliest memories are of sitting on her mother's lap reading Cinderella and Snow White and Rose Red over, and over, and over again until she had them memorized –- she was too young to know the alphabet.
Amanda started writing stories in big, sloppy handwriting in a wide-rule notebook when she was bored, during class (of course) in the fifth grade. Her favorite stories always include excitement, adventure and a handsome hero guaranteed to sweep her off her feet.
Amanda lives in beautiful Colorado with her husband (her high-school sweetheart who proved the reality of "love at first sight") and three teenagers whom she reminds, repeatedly… "If it's not in my phone, it's not happening," because her mind is oh-so-often far away living a fairy tale. (That's code for – if an alarm doesn't go off, she forgets to pick up her kids from school…)

One Good Thing by Wendy Wax

In her fifth and most exciting book yet, Wax returns to her Ten Beach Road series with ONE GOOD THING (Berkley Trade Paperback Original; April 25, 2017; $16). Picking up where Sunshine Beach left off, fans of the series will delight in catching up with familiar beloved characters and new readers will have no problem sinking into this witty and heartwarming story about loyalty, friendship and the secrets that test those bonds.

Sure to resonate with readers of Elin Hilderbrand and Jane Green, ONE GOOD THING is a warm and insightful look at love and the bonds of true friendship.

Embroiled in a battle to regain control of their renovation-turned-reality TV show, Do Over, Maddie, Avery, Nikki, and Kyra find themselves holding tight to the frayed ends of their friendship and relationships.

Maddie must face the realities of dating a rock star once again topping the charts and dealing with her hapless ex-husband, while Avery is caught up in family drama even as she attempts to transform a tiny cottage into a home for the newly impoverished heiress who helped bankroll their last renovation. Put on bedrest, a hugely pregnant Nikki can’t quite believe love can last, nor can she trust in her own maternal instinct. And Kyra, who has secretly put Bella Flora at risk in an attempt to salvage Do Over, must decide whether to accept a desperately needed bail out from her son’s famous father that comes with far too many strings attached.

But friendship is made for times like these, to keep each other—and their dreams—from crumbling.

My Thoughts…

The women are amazing in this book.   Their friendship, support, and love are more family like than friends.   Without a question they accept each other’s faults and problems.   They worked together to help each other out of the problems they were each experiencing.

My only struggle with the book is that this was the 5th book in the series and I had not read the first 4.  Throughout the entire book I felt like I was missing a piece of the story.   I wanted to know the background, the history, and the reasoning that each character was acting the way they were.    Wendy Wax did her best to catch the reader up without spending a ton of time and words on it but I was still missing some parts of the story.     There were a lot of characters to keep track of and it was sometimes confusing.

Overall this is a fun beach story.     One Good Thing is an easy read that I enjoyed.   I do recommend reading the first books in the Ten Beach Road series.

Thank you to Danielle Dill at Berkley/NAL and NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet Dreams (Indigo Bay Sweet Romance Series #1) by Stacy Claflin

Edition Language
Ever since her twin became a singing sensation, Sky Hampton has struggled to be appreciated for who she is—apart from her sister. She wards off Aspen’s fans, who beg for autographs and selfies everywhere Sky goes. She can’t even find a guy who likes her for her. Sky flees to the small coastal town of Indigo Bay in hopes of blending in and building her blossoming career.

Jace Fisher is the textbook definition of the strong silent type—nobody can break through his tough exterior. He has suffered more than his fair share of tragedies, and to protect his shattered heart, he pushes everyone away. Jace spends his days fixing the Indigo Bay cottages, and his nights… nobody really knows. He keeps to himself.

When Jace shows up to fix Sky’s AC, he barely notices her and she’s distracted with settling in. It takes an emergency situation to get them talking, and when they do, the two find they have more in common than first appeared. As their attraction grows, defenses soar. Will they be able to risk love when they’ve both been burned in the past?

My Thoughts…

Sweet Dreams is a sweet story about a twin trying to step out of her sister’s shadow.     After living behind her sister for so long Sky is looking for a place to become her own person.     That is not easy when your twin is a well known singer and tv star and you are identical.

Enter Jace Fisher.     He has been living a shell of a life until he knocks on Sky’s door and is instantly attracted.    I LOVED these two together.     I LOVED that they didn’t rush their relationship.   It was hot, steamy, and sweet.     There was attraction and sparks but these sparks didn’t lead to instant bedtime.    Their relationship was getting to know each other understanding each other and falling in love.     The love happens quickly but it was real.    There was no doubt that it was true.

Stacy Claflin has written an amazing story about two characters that I wanted to be friends with.    They are realistic and living in a world that anyone could be in.    There is friendships, new beginnings, falling in love, and healing within the Sweet Dreams story.    This is the perfect book for the romantics looking for a fun and easy read.

Thank you Stacy Claflin for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Remember Me by Lynda Renham

Kindle Edition
Published March 24th 2017 by Raucous Publishing

A new neighbour becomes a new friend. She looks up to you. She admires you, but is it you she wants? You begin to wonder if she wants your husband, or even your child. But then you realise, she wants your life.

When Sharni and Tom move into 24 The Pines, it seems like Clare and Chris have the perfect neighbours. Sharni is always there to help, especially with childcare for Clare’s two-year-old, Ben. But Clare can’t shake off the feelings of anxiety that assail her whenever Sharni is near. Is Clare just being overprotective, or are her feelings justified? As Sharni‘s influence touches everyone around her, Clare finds herself fighting for her sanity as well her family.

My Thoughts…

I have read so many Lynda Renham books that I thought I kind of knew what to expect but she threw me for a loop with Remember Me.    This is an entirely different style of writing for her and I loved every page of the book.    Remember me is a psychological thriller.

As I continued reading the book I could not decide who the “bad guy” was.   Both Clare and Sharni have issues.     The story is told with both of them struggling with day to day life.   Clare treats, if you can call it that, with medication while Sharni plots and hides what is going on.    Both of their husbands are sticking their heads in the sand about their issues.     It is easier to ignore the issues then to take them head on is the approach of both husbands.

The twists, turns, and unknown are all wonderful in this thriller.    I am hoping that Lynda Renham will continue writing this style.   I look forward to more from her.

Casen by Amy Marie COVER REVEAL

πŸ’™.•°*°•. πŸ’™ COVER  REVEAL πŸ’™.•°*°•. πŸ’™

Title: CASEN
Author: Amy Marie
Cover Designer: Sara Eirew at Sara Eirew Photographer
Release Date: June 20, 2017

We’ve all experienced it. Naively going through life thinking it won’t happen to us. When it does, it rocks you to the core and infiltrates your body like a virus. You put your trust in someone only to have it ripped to shreds in the blink of an eye. Even I’m guilty of it. Years ago, I stood by – watching – as my friends tortured Annie, the girl I was in love with in high school, never standing up for her. How was I to know that one bet back in high school, between the PITCREW, would come back and haunt me so maliciously.

I’ve since lived my life trying to make up for it. I finally gained the courage to seek out Annie and ask for forgiveness. I just didn’t know she was right under my nose. Under my body. In my bed. With a new look. A new name.

Embyr’s plan was to get revenge on us all, and in the process, she set off a chain of events that would turn our worlds upside down. She conspired to have me fall in love with her and then crush me with the blow. She succeeded, but didn’t realize she would hurt just as much as me.

However, the road to recovery has its twists and turns. If I ever thought my heart would survive – I was mistaken – and if I thought that was the end of the betrayal – I was dead wrong.

A knock at the door halts our laughing and Kate jumps up to answer. I go into the kitchen and pour myself some water before hearing the commotion.
“Who the fuck are you?”
“Well, you came to this house,” Kate responds, “Who the hell are you?”
“Casen’s girlfriend!” Embyr answers back and I drop my plastic cup onto the floor. Not sure if it’s the shock of hearing Embyr’s voice for the second time today, or the alcohol. Probably both.
At my door is Kate, barely dressed, in a standoff with Embyr.
Kate scoffs. “Casen doesn’t have a girlfriend.”
Embyr peers past her, looking beautiful yet so very broken, and finds me staring back. “Didn’t take you very long, huh, Casen?”
She turns away from the door. Maybe it’s the alcohol or the talk with Reece, but I take off running after her. Kate lets me by as I race past her in all my alcohol infused glory. I hear my door shut behind me just as I catch up to Embyr. I grab her upper arm, stopping her in her tracks, and turn her to face me. “What are you doing here?”
She rips her arm away from me. “I came here to talk to you.” Looking past me, she adds, “But I see you’re busy. And you smell like gasoline!”
My eyes widen. “Are you serious? You can’t come over here and pitch a fucking fit after what I found out what you’re doing!” My voice booms off the hallway walls. My conversation with Reece is long gone. She makes me so fucking angry.
“Was,” she states, her shoulders slump.
“Was, what?”
She bites her lip before shifting from foot to foot. “Was doing. I was doing all that stuff. Not anymore.” Her gaze searches mine. “Things changed.”
My heart starts to beat one hundred times faster. She can’t do this. She can’t seep into me and make me forget all the bullshit she did. What she put me through. What she put my friends through.
“I don’t care. You need to leave.” I point towards the elevators. She needs to do it soon before I pull her into my arms. My heart and alcohol are leading this conversation, not my brain. I need to rectify that.
"Do you still love me though?" she asks, tears cascading down the sides of her cheeks. “I heard you tell Reece that you did outside the funeral home.”
I take a moment to think about what I should say. I don’t want to give her the satisfaction. I want to hurt her just as much as she hurt me. I want to lie, but I can’t. "I do."
Embyr lessens the gap between us, reaching out, looking for comfort. I step back, out of reach, and watch her hand fall lifelessly to her side. “You have to go,” I tell her again.
“Are you sleeping with her?” Her breasts graze my chest. I can feel myself becoming one with her.
I lean in real close, inhaling her scent. “If I was, it wouldn’t be any of your business.”
She shutters. “I miss you, Casen.”
I can’t help what comes next as I grab her by her neck and crash my lips to hers. They are soft, relenting, as I push my tongue inside and infuse it with hers. The tenseness in her body releases as she grabs my shirt and pulls me deeper into her.
“Embyr,” I whisper across her lips, blissfully. But that only lasts a moment.
Not Embyr. Annie.
I pull myself away from her. “Leave,” I command.
She stands there as I walk back into my apartment, closing the door on us.
